Royal Institute, Internal Alterations

Client: Royal Institute

Sectors: Culture and Heritage

Services: Architecture

Founded in March 1799 and located in London’s Mayfair, The Royal Institution of Great Britain is an independent charity that aims to connect people with science through public events and education including the annual Christmas lectures.

Lateral Architecture were invited to explore feasibility options and secure Listed Building Consent to improve visitor access down into the lower ground floor with an internal staircase connecting directly to the Atrium Café.  As part of our solution, the structure, form and materials selected for the staircase are intended to compliment the modern contemporary space of the atrium and not detract from the historic architectural elements within the Grade 1 Listed Building.
